Support of MultiByteCode for IBM i Agent

We have to store data from different IBM i Systems from several countries, with diffent local encodings (DE/AT = CCSID 273, NO = CCSID 277, BE = 500, ...) into one target schema. Therefore we descided to use for character fields the data type NCHA...

System maintained MQTs for BLU MPP

We use DB2 v10.5 DPF for a Warehouse Environment (40TB Data, ~9000 Users, 40 Tsd. Reports per day). We want to migrate the database to DB2 v11.1.1.1 BLU MPP with all tables column oriented. In this case we have checked the functionality for system...

Informix documentation for oncheck command should be crystal clear

Informix documentation for oncheck command does not explain clearly that this command should be run only during a maintenance window or during an off-hours period because the oncheck utility places a shared lock on system catalog tables when the d...

UPDATE STATISTICS MEDIUM/HIGH with PDQ should favour use of indices for sort when more than one column is specified

Currently (in my testing) any UPDATE STATISTICS MEDIUM/HIGH statement with PDQ specifying more than one column will not use indices for sort and will instead scan the table, write to temporary files and sort. This is true even when all columns spe...

InsteadOF SQL

It is common in the database world (DB2 but all the others I have worked with are the same) to have a separate product installed that generates code and submits it to the database for processing. Eventually, you will encounter SQL that doesn't per...

Materialized Query tables in DB2 z/OS with refresh immediate option

MQT's - Materialized Query tables - are a well known feature in all advanced relational database systems. The DB2 family has this feature since more than 10 years. If you look at this functionality in DB2 LUW and DB2 z/OS the MQT functionality loo...

Speed option for table repack

Table repack is a powerful feature but can generate a lot of logical logs. When repacking a large table, which may take many hours, the number of logs created can easily overwhelm the log backup processes and/or cause replication lag. Potential co...

When Cognos Analytics queries Snowflake (Database Vendor: https://snowflake.com), the data returned when a TIME datatype is used in the query should be exactly the same as the data stored at rest within a given table on Snowflake, without any conversion based on the difference in hours between UTC and how time is configured on the Operating System where the dispatcher is installed.

This would benefit any IBM Cognos customer who is using Snowflake as a data source and expecting data to not be modified in flight regardless of where the Cognos dispatchers are located in the World's 24 regional time zones.

Have new authority for REFRESH of MQT that does not require high privilege levels

We historically have an application batch userid that has DBADM authority. We are limiting all access to this ID to the minimally required authority it requires such as load, imagecopy and runstats at the DB level. When we started converting our t...
