Enhanced Instrumentation for workfiles

A possibility through IFI and/or a new command -DIS WORKFILES to get an “asis” use list of all work pools (Sort , DGTT, Work etc.) This data is crucial for tuning the number, size and type of the work spaces that we all have. The output should be a repeating block list (as normal for IFIs) or just lots of lines in the command output split into 4k, 32k and also whether or not the space is Segmented, PBG (with MAXPARTITIONS if possible!) , PRIQTY and SECQTY. It must also contain a list of “owners” of the data within, CORR fields etc., If available, and also Application name, primary auth, stmtid, static/dynamic, sort size (high water mark for at least sort would also be very cool to have as this is a critical threshold!), record size and count. Nice to have would be: What triggered the use of the work space? DGTT, scrollable cursor, order by etc. Finally the current OBIDs in use must also be output as this 11,000 limit gets hit a lot and it comes a little “out of the blue”!

Dear Roy, Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS Idea.

After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming deliverable because it is not consistent with the product architecture and our strategy for future deliverables. Consequently, we will not be implementing this Idea.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
