We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

If you have not registered on this portal please register at http://ibm.biz/IBM-Data-and-AI-Portal-Register . To complete registration you will need to open the email you will receive from Aha to confirm your identity.

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Support macOS and Linux on QMF for Workstation 12

QMF for Workstation v12 and above only runs on Windows OS. Provide support for running QMF for Workstation v12 on macOS and Linux platforms as well. This allows full functionality to be provided to users on these platforms.

QMF
Who would benefit from this IDEA? All customers running macOS and Linux (including many IBM employees!)
How should it work?

QMF for Workstation should run as a native Eclipse application on macOS and Linux, similar to the way that v11 ran. QMF for Websphere does not provide the same functionality.

Idea Priority Medium
Client Name IBM

IBMers please contact me directly via emial. At the moment the only option for Mac environment is to access QMF via VM. Mac support has been deprecated with v11 based on the demand for QMF for Mac being low and thus no longer being updated.

What are recommended alternatives if this doesn't get fixed?

I've discovered right now that QMF doesn't work at all on BigSur. I'm an HR datascientist and i use QMF for everything i do. I've saved there 3 yrs queries, analytical queries, dashbords, pivot that i need to run weekly, monthly. I'm completely lost without it. And i don't find a way to recover my queries and DB connections. Is there anybody in the QMF team that can help? At least a workaround or a way to extract my queries would help (even if lots are complex queries and i'm not sure can be run in other queries tool). If anyone that can help i'm antonella_vaccina@it.ibm.com. Thanks and please fix QMF as soon as possible, we need it!

Hi, QMF is an excellent tool for manipulating data for DB2, Netezza, etc. I do need to use ofr my activities working at IBM. Can IBM provide an update to let it run on Mac OS Big Sur?

We need QMF to run ledger reports - without it, I cannot do my job properly. Please update! Thanks.

QMF for Workstation for Mac is not supported and doesn't work with Big Sur.

Just found the internal IBM link - please note that this is an IBM-internal request. (If it helps.)

Please note that QMF for Workstation v11 no longer even runs on macOS 11.0 "Big Sur". There is no longer any workaround for users with the latest macOS.

There are a lot of peolpe that use that tool The lack of support for MacOS and even Linux is going in a wrong way. Both operational systems are POSIX compliant and is the future. Even Windows in a short time will have to go POSIX standards to survive.

If you follow the current MS CEO, it is clear that Windows is going to that direction, its current architecture is at least 40 years old and it is monolithic. Look ahead, the current Intel desktops and laptops will disappear soon, the manufacturers will go to ARM processor based machines, and one migration like that can only be made in a transparent way if the operational system is non harware dependent, such as Linux and MasOS that has the same priciples as Linux.

If the main problem is Java from Oracle and its ridiculous licensing, why not go ahead with OpenJava that is free and compatible with Java/Oracle ? Or even use a cross-plataform, free and very powerfull Python to cosntruct the QMF Workstation.
