We have a large planning cube that has 350+ users capturing planning data on a product level based on insights gained from both string and numeric measures. Based on IBM's best practice, string measures should be removed from the planning cube if dimension reordering is required. If the string measures are moved into a separate cube, functionality is lost from the users perspective as they now need to scroll on 2 separate views.
We are currently reviewing all options to increase performance and dimension re-ordering has indicated that the cube can be optimised by 40 to 50% if string measures are removed and dimensions re-ordered.
|Who would benefit from this IDEA?||The planners that can continue to view both numeric/string data in the same view while the TM1 instance continues to store numeric/string data in the most optimum way (2 separate cube), only combining the data in the composite view of PAW.|
How should it work?
1) Define “composite views” from 2 different cubes in the same grid within PAW.
2) User functionality is key as the planners should be able to associate numeric and string data in the same view from separate cubes, without scrolling in separate views/dashboards/tabs.
3) We have investigated various options, like using the formats to display a description, but this is limited to 3 options; creating MDX queries to combine the data between the cubes which can become very slow if the same MDX view is refreshed by the number of planners at the same time; kept the string/numeric measures in the same cube, but this result in performance degradation when the cube is queried and dimension re-ordering is then unavailable.
|Priority Justification||Dimension re-ordering cannot be applied if string measures exist in the same cube, but user functionality is lost if best practice is applied (moving these measures into a separate cube).|
