Data validation or limitation for (string) cells

From Excel one is used to the functionality of data validation. It would be great to have this notion realized in TM1 as well.

Our concrete business case is that users enter IDs for new elements in a business-driven dimension. These IDs should follow a specific naming convention, i.e. a 8 digit number. Would be nice to have this validation right after entry, without a validation-cell next to it, that does the check via rule.

I'm aware, that there will always be cases which can not be caught by such a cell-validation. But it's sad, that there is by now only the possibility of picklists, which is quickly pushed to its limits.

The Planning Analytics team is investigating options for optional server side (TM1) validation on any data entry. This includes both string and numeric data.

We might consider some client (Workspace) side validation features for single cell widgets.
