PAW : Links between books

For describing the issue, we’ll use two books that we’ll name Book A and Book B. Book A contains a navigation button to Book B.

Let’s take Production environment where Books A and B are in Shared folder. I’d like to update Book B with another one that contains new features. To achieve that update, I transport the new Book B from the development environment to production environment. When I move the new Book B into shared folder, an error message appears which indicates that: “there’s already a book with the same name”.

Because there’s no replacement functionality, we must delete the old book B in shared folder before moving the new book B into shared folder.

The main issue comes from the navigation button in Book A to Book B. By deleting the old Book B, the navigation link doesn’t work anymore despite the presence of the new Book B. The navigation link does not recognize the new Book B.

Ideally, features that would be great are:

  • Replacement functionality when we move/copy a book into a folder where the book already exists.

  • Maintain the navigation link between books.

That will allow us to deploy books without updating all navigation links.

Closing as delivered. We now support replacing books with the copy or move feature. When pasting books in a folder with books that contain the same name there is an option to replace or rename. The replace option will keep the original ID of the book being replaced.

We are still planning an enhancement to LCM to deploy books from a snapshot directly into a folder with books that contain the same name. When we do this we will address navigation links between boos within the snapshot, as well as books already in the environment that link to the books being replaced. This will greatly improve the LCM deployment experience to make sure all links between books are updated as expected.

The ability for lifecycle manager to update a folder/books rather than importing the package to a temporary location.

As a work around, I currently use the "Ctrl+Q+/" feature, which allows me to copy/paste the json directly into a paw book.

Integrating the PAW books/folders with Github the same way the TM1 server is would also be great functionality.
