Optim Connect does not offer a way to extract CLOBS or BLOB data types to separate files. If you have a file imbedded in a BLOB field a 3rd party tool is required to extract the data.
Optim Connect does not have support for CLOBs and maps it to a string. With a 3rd party tool you can extract the CLOB to a delimited file but not to separate files. Depending on the data in the CLOB using a CSV file is difficult.
The benefits of IBM offering a tool to extract the CLOB and BLOB without the use of a 3rd party tool are tremendous. Optim users will be able to extract the data without restoring the table to a database. Also Optim users would not need to rely on 3rd party tools to extract the datatype to separate files.
|Who would benefit from this IDEA?||As an Optim user I want the ability to write a specific column (normally a LOB datatype) to separate files with the file naming convention comprised of literals and\or field values in order to tie the file back to a specific record.|
How should it work?
See file attachment for how this idea could be implemented using a ODBC connection and configuration file.
|Priority Justification||Medium priority because the only way to extract CLOBs to separate files is to restore the table and column. The only way to extract BLOBs to separate files is to use a 3rd party tool capable of performing the task.|
