Ubuntu 18.04TLS Support on IBM DB2

Ubuntu 18.04TLS is not supported currently on any of the Db2 streams. Ubuntu 16 LTS has end of support in April 2021. With dependency on IBM DB2, we are unable to upgrade those client environments to Ubuntu 18LTS putting the production environment maintenance in trouble.

Below is the update from IBM during October 2020 and would like to place this a new feature request to consider formally as a priority in 2021.

It is planned for Db2 11.1.4.6 which is 1Q 2021 but please note that this is listed as best effort. We will have better estimate when we get closer to GA of 11.1.4.6.

    Hi Sowjanya,

I would have to refer you to my DB2 colleagues to answer those questions. I will transfer your RFE request to DB2 workspace.

    Thanks

Great! Do we have any tentative dates in Q1 2021 when Db2 11.1.4.6 would work on Ubuntu 18LTS? We have to apply patches on 'n' number of clients and would like to plan our delivery pipeline accordingly.

On the other note, is there a plan for making either of these compatible with Ubuntu 20 LTS too?

    Hi Sowjana,

Support for Db2 11.5.5.0 on Ubutu 18 TLS is scheduled for Nov. 18th. Support for Db2 11.1.4.6 is still in the plan (but of course subject to change).

From MDM perspective in terms of DB2, we only specify versions that we support and not the platform. Customers can choose to deploy DB2 on a different platform than MDM application. So as long as the version of DB2 is supported the customer can choose any platform that it supports for it's deployment.

If you are OK with it, I will go ahead and close this RFE.

    Thanks

    Hi May,

The update was from Mojgan Samifanni ,Manager, Db2 Deployment & Release Engineering, IBM Data & AI.

Yes, talking about DB2 11.1.* where we preferably expect the fix. Keep us posted, if the chances of changing 11.5.* to work with Ubuntu 18 LTS would be relatively quick than DB2 11.1.*.

    Hi Sowjanya,

Can you please clarify where and from whom (which team) in IBM you received this information.

    • It is planned for Db2 11.1.4.6 which is 1Q 2021 but please note that this is listed as best effort. We will have better estimate when we get closer to GA of 11.1.4.6.

Also you are talking about Db2 11.1.*, not Db2 11.5.*, right?

    Thank you
