Enable proxy user for database connection

In my company, SPSS Modeler is connected to an Oracle database. Users can access to the database (through Modeler client application) by two means:

  • With their basic account using their user (e.g. "toto") and password, which restricts their action to the minimum allowed

  • With their proxy account using user plus a proxy user (e.g. "toto[schema]"), which allow them to access to a specific schema with the same rights as the user of the schema (native Oracle function since Oracle 9i Release 2), which permits a lot more things.

Currently, user can't connect with a proxy user because SPSS Modeler application does not accept a connection string composed of 2 users (IBM support answered that: "The reason we do not support this method is because the SQL SOURCE node will only accept a single username a valid value. Entering something like oracleUser[proxyUser] will be sent as a complete value to the ODBC string.)"

Because users can't access to the database with a proxy user, they do not have all the rights they need to work. Therefore, they use a SQL client aside to connect with their proxy user, do what they have to do on the database (mostly alter/create/update/drop/grant), and go back to SPSS for calculations/figures.

The use of "proxy user" on database is very common in companies and it is a part of the database rights management. Users of my company are really loosing time due to this missing feature.
