Allow additional Special Characters for Data Stage Passwords

We own the Data Stage tool, are a heavy iSeries shop, and we use Active Directory where possible for authentication to reduce the number of user ID's and passwords our folks have to remember. We have been trying to enhance the security on all of our applications and systems. One of those steps is requiring more complex passwords.

However we have run into a pretty serious challenge.

Data stage inexplicably will not allow the following special characters in a password:
The following characters are not permitted:
(white space)
! (exclamation point)
" (double quotation mark)
# (number sign)
$ (dollar sign)
% (percent sign)
& (ampersand)
' (single quotation mark)
: (colon)
{ (left brace)
} (right brace)

On the iseries, at the password level value set at the value of 0. The only special characters allowed are #, $ and @.
Combine these two things together and the ONLY special character allowed is the @ sign. Since we are using Active Directory to sign into DataStage, that means our folks would only be able to use the @ sign as a special character for their windows sign in as well.
That's not terribly secure, and limits password choices quite a bit.
