Automatic Statistics table exclusion list

We have a 3 billion row table that we would like to remove from AUS selection and manually run statistics as it is failing due to exhausting the 48Gb of sort disk

You could give up on AUS and run dostats instead. Dostats supports both inclusion and exclusion lists via command line options supplying individual tables, a filename containing tables to include or exclude, or a SQL filters. Also, you can use PSORT_DBTEMP to have dostats perform its sorting in filesystems outside of Informix's dbspaces if you need more sort space.

Automatic statistics assumes that lead columns of indexes should be run with 'stats high'. We have a primary key index on a single column that has a uniform distribution.

    • There is no record deletion, only addition.
      • This implies that stats high will be of no benefit
      • potentially have an optimizer negative performance impact as it considers a non-uniform distribution in generating the optimal access path .
    • In addition to run automatic update stats for this table requires 93 GB of tempspace
      • all others require less than 16GB.
    • Currently we manually run statistics for this table with selective options thus mostly avoiding automatic stats being triggered.
