When running tuning jobs that use the Index Advisor, other users are unable to run tuning jobs at the same time. Our organization has over 100 DBAs, close to 1000 developers and thousands of databases. It is expected that multiple DBAs will need to run tuning jobs at the same time. Long running tuning jobs impact the ability of other DBAs to perform their work as tuning jobs must run serially.
|Who would benefit from this IDEA?||DSM users who share DSM installations with other users.|
How should it work?
As I do not understand exactly why tuning jobs that use the Index Advisor must be run one after the other, I cannot provide a detailed explanation of how things should work. However, I can state that any number of users should be able to run tuning jobs at the same time.
|Priority Justification||I have rated this high, because it will become an issue within our organization the minute DSM is released to the user base.|
