When testing the generation of autonomic actions into a maintenance window, it is sometimes very helpful to be able to delete all of the actions that have been generated into a maintenance window. This is true even if the actions are generated as passive actions. Deleting these actions would allow the user to iteratively test the conditions defined in an exception profile to verify that the process is working as expected and that the right objects are being triggered.
The problem here is that the current design of both Data Server Manager and the Db2 Automation Tool do not give the user this choice. The only choices currently presented to the user when deleting a maintenance window are to a) reassign all actions in this window to another maintenance window, or b) to do nothing with the actions which causes them to be ORPHANED. (A message box does pop up warning you of this). A third option is needed to allow the user to simply delete all actions as part of deleting the maintenance window. This would greatly help prevent orphaned actions from building up in the Autonomics Director database with no way to ever get rid of them.
