While using the .NET Core driver to access DB2 data, it would be helpful to also be able to directly call RPG/RPGLE/CL etc. programs that are already in use on our System i from a .NET Core program.
Currently, a web application running on System i using NET.DATA is able to call native programs on System i and use the results directly.
In order to use native System i programs while using the .NET Core driver, a stored procedure has to be made to wrap the program and return the results. This feels clumsy and requires extra steps which feel unnecessary.
|Who would benefit from this IDEA?||Anybody using System i and .NET Core|
|Priority Justification||A workaround is available (wrap each program in a stored procedure) but it requires extra steps.|
How should it work?
Add methods to support calling native System i programs with the .NET Core driver from a .NET Core application running on an external system.
