DB2 does not use a FlashCopy (Imagecopy) that has been migrated by DFHSM.

DB2 does not use a FlashCopy (Imagecopy) that has been migrated by DFHSM so we have check for this in RECOVER, which is a potential case for error/mishandling.

DB2 should do a recall of recall of a migrated Flashcopy/Imagecopy as with all other sequentiell Imagecopies.

Hi Josef, The existing DFSMShsm RFE ID 139967 is enough. Thank you.

    Hi Janet,

because RFE ID is 139967 already exists: do we need to open a second RFE @ DFSMShsm for this? Or is RFE ID is 139967 enough?

    Regards Josef Leitner / R-IT

Hi Ewald, Our apologies. A DFSMShsm RFE already exists. The external RFE ID is 139967. Here is the link:

    Thank you.

Hi Ewald, We are aware that DFSMShsm has a prototype working but other work has had to take precedence. We recommend that you open an RFE against DFSMShsm to give additional focus to this. Please go to https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/ and submit the RFE using these values: Brand: Servers and Systems Software, RFE Product: z/OS, RFE Component: DFSMS HSM. I have asked that the DFSMShsm RFE coordinator notify us when the RFE is opened so we can add ourselves to its watchlist to stay in sync with their development effort on this. Thank you, and please do let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Development Team

    Hello,

We agree that we do not want the customer to have to recall the dataset separately and that it should be handled by the utility. The difference in your scenario is that IEFBR14 allocates the dataset which then causes catalog services to recall it. For the utility, we want to invoke DSS to copy the dataset directly and have it succeed without the need for a separate recall of it first, i.e. regardless of whether it is migrated or not. We could drive the recall first within the utility, but that introduces additional complexity and the best solution is that the recall is automatically handled by DSS. That is what is being worked upon and what the utilities will exploit once ready.

Hello Janet. The request is to have DFSMS processing this automatically. Adding a step to recall the dataset prior to the recover step introduces manual work adding complexity to the recover operation.

Hi Janet, i'm rather sure, that DFSMS needs nothing to change. Because if i allocate a Flashcopy-IC,. for example, with an IEFBR14 before the DB2-Utility, DFSMS recalls the Flashcopy.

Thank you for submitting your Idea to Db2 for z/OS. This idea will not be implemented by Db2 for z/OS. Please raise a requirement against product DFSMS instead. If they deliver support for automatic recall of migrated FlashCopy datasets then Db2 utilities will support it.
