existing “Current copy” is lost due to current db2 plan management scope

When we use PLAN management (Extended) option, the active “Current copy” will become “Previous Copy” during REBIND activity, and ORIGINAL COPY will be retained if it is created already or this current copy will be stored as ORIGINAL COPY . what could be the impact to the plan management scope in case of DB2 alter takes place for the underlying db2 objects which are being used in the active “Current copy”. When Db2 alter makes the active “Current copy” as invalid, this “Current copy” will not be moved into “Previous copy” by Db2 and we may get the following warning message DSNT219I while doing REBIND.

DSNT219I -DBxx DSNTBRB2 REBIND FOR PACKAGE =DBxx...(Version Name) SUCCEEDED BUT A PREVIOUS AND/OR A PREVIOUS
AND/OR ORIGINAL PACKAGE COPY WAS NOT CREATED/REPLACED BECAUSE THE CURRENT PACKAGE COPY WAS INVALID

Db2 ALETR makes the active “Current Copy” as INVALD, So the next REBIND may be successful but the “current Copy” will not be copied into “Previous Copy” as below.

During any db2 project change, Db2 alter may invalidate db2 package and the above situation may occur. In case of Change Backout, How the existing “Current Copy” ( the one which was invalidated due to Db2 alter) can be restored if all the underlying objects are restored or corrected to the original state.

Hello Irudaya, Thank you for submitting this Aha! Idea. The Db2 for z/OS team reviewed it and determined if your current copy is invalid, you can still REBIND with APREUSESOURCE(CURRENT). This is how you can get back to the original state.

Please let us know if you have any additional Aha! ideas to submit and we will review an consider them for possible implementation in to the Db2 for z/OS product.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
