DB2 SQLCA feedback field indicating if this UOW is blocking others

On DB2 12 CERT (V12-CERT-2017) we discussed the possibility of increasing concurrency in DB2. In a typical batch environment we try to balance #of commits towards concurrency using a so-called commit-control-system that will have COMMIT on a number of parameters. We would like to be able to add a variable to that algorithm that tells us if the UOW (batch) is HOLDER towards other work and thus need to COMMIT asap... If we don't disturb anyone we can hold the locks longer.

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS Idea.

After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming deliverable because it is not consistent with the product architecture and our strategy for future deliverables.

Querying this information from IRLM for each lock that might be held by a unit of work would have a prohibitive performance impact.

As a consequence we will not be implementing this Idea.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Development Team
