Allow a join of a temporal table with an archive-enabled table.

Allowing us to join a temporal table with an archive-enabled table would allow us to take advantage of both features.  As is we will have to choose one or the other.

    Dear Thomas,

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have reviewed this request and determined it would be of high cost to implement. Also, it does not align within functionality prioritized for delivery within the next 12 months. Therefore, unfortunately, we will not be considering this idea at this time.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team

Suppose you have a transaction log table, TRAN_LOG, containing 3 months worth of transactions that is archive-enabled using a TRAN_LOG_ARCH table, which contains another 21 months of transactions. Another table called BALANCE_MASTER_LOAN, which contains basic information about a single loan. This table is version-enabled using BALANCE_MASTER_LOAN_HIST as its history table. A use case would be to join BALANCE_MASTER_LOAN with TRAN_LOG on the columns ACCT DECIMAL(10) and SUFFIX DECIMAL(1).

    For example:

    SELECT B.ACCT, B.SUFFIX, B.LOAN_INTEREST_RATE, B.TERM_OF_LOAN,

    T.BUSINESS_LOG_DATE, T.TRANSACTION_AMT

    FROM BALANCE_MASTER_LOAN B

    INNER JOIN TRAN_LOG T

    ON B.ACCT = T.ACCT

    AND B.SUFFIX = T.SUFFIX

    WHERE B.ACCT = ?

    ORDER BY B.ACCT, B.SUFFIX, T.BUSINESS_LOG_DATE

Hello Thomas, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Our Db2 for z/OS engineering team has reviewed it. Please provide a specific use case with examples to demonstrate why you would need to join both temporal and archived-enable tables.

We look forward to your update.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
