Reorg Rebalance for partitions with different DSSIZE

Reorg Rebalance tries to set new partition boundaries so that rows are evenly distributed across the reorganized partitions.

It does not consider that the partitions can have different values for DSSIZE.

So the functionality of Reorg Rebalance should be extended, that the setting of the new partition boundaries can consider different values for DSSIZE of the reorganized partitions. The distribution of the rows should be relative to the DSSIZE.

Simple Example:

Partition 1: DSSIZE 2G, 300.000 rows

Partition 2: DSSIZE 1G, 0 rows

Currently, the REORG REBALANCE of partition 1 and 2 would try to get 150.000 rows to each partition.

With the proposed extension, the REORG REBALANCE would try to put 200.000 rows to partition 1 and 100.000 rows to partition 2.

Dear Ulf, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. While development understands the rationale of this requirement, REORG REBALANCE uses straightly an even row distributing algorithm. It is not designed to rebalance by space attributes (evenly or scaled by DSSIZE). If we need to consider space as a factor then it would also need to take into account the individual record sizes...etc where REBALANCE had many issues in the past.

Therefore, we will not be considering this idea.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 Utilities Team
