Identify when all members of a Data Sharing Group are up and operational

After a crash or hard down, Db2 will perform its recovery processing including GRECP and LPL processing. There are external systems (e.g. CICS, MQ, etc.) that are dependent on all members in the data-sharing group to be fully up and operational and all objects available. You would have to check across all members of the DSG to verify no objects are still processing recovery:

DSNR002I RESTART COMPLETED

.

DSNB317I NO OBJECTS IN GRECP/LPL STATUS

.

and if a specific Db2 member has stopped attempting recovery, then

.

DSNB328I OBJECT REMAINS IN GRECP/LPL STATUS

When you are using a DSG, there should be a final coordinating message that indicates all members in the group are available for processing to signal automation to start dependent systems.

Dear John, Thank you for submitting this Aha! idea. The Db2 for z/OS team has been busy reviewing it and concluded that they don't think a new message is needed.

The existing DSNB317I message indicates when there are no objects in LPL or when there are no objects in GRECP in the data sharing group. Each Db2 member monitors for LPL and GRECP status to issue the DSNB317I. As soon as one Db2 member issues the DSNB317I, it would indicate there are no objects in LPL or no objects in GRECP for the entire data sharing group.

To identify when all members of a data sharing group are active, the existing message issued by the -DISPLAY GROUP command indicate whether the Db2 members are active. For some users, all the Db2 members are not used regularly and do not need to be restarted.

Therefore, development thinks they can not summarize the information shown in the -DISPLAY GROUP command into a message that’s meaningful for all users.

Please do continue to submit enhancement requests to us for consideration as we review each and every one as potential candidates for improvements to the Db2 for z/OS product.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS team
