Modify redirected recovery to eliminate the need for repair catalog of target

Modify redirected recovery to eliminate the need for repair catalog of target

The relatively new Db2 utility enhancement of redirected recovery is very useful

When recovering a target tablespace from another tablespace, the IBM documentation is very clear, we MUST have a second utility of REPAIR CATALOG of the target tablespace

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-for-zos/12?topic=recover-running-redirected-recovery

This repair catalog of the target must be completed before the tables are used or indexes rebuilt.

If this repair catalog is so clearly mandatory, why doesn’t the redirected recovery just do the REPAIR itself?

Why is this second step required by me?  I see no point.

To me, this REPAIR CATALOG step can be built into the REDIRECTED RECOVERY.

If I misunderstand something then please explain why it is necessary for me to do the REPAIR CATALOG otherwise this RFE from me is for IBM to enhance redirected recovery to elminate the requirement of ME doing REPAIR CATALOG.

A benefit to IBM and DB2 is that this enhancement will make the new functionality easier to use and more obvious.

Thanks

Dear Brian, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request.

The development team reviewed it and determined that the proposed behavior makes logical sense and can improve ease of use, however this improvement is primarily a nice-to-have with the functionality to perform the repair already exists today.

Due to our 12 month roadmap being full, we will not be considering this request. It will remain in our backlog, however.

    Sincerely,

The Db2 for z/OS utilities team
