is it possible to introduce alternate name or short version of "CURRENT APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY"?
On a regular basis, we usually want to validate the applcompat of our system for informative purposes so we do:
SELECT CURRENT APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY FROM SYSIBM.SYSDUMMY1;
or when we set the value we do:
SET CURRENT APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY = 'V12R1M504';
perhaps it is just me, but so many times I often mistype compatibility or even application plus it is just soooo long to type too!! Why can't we have a short version?
I feel there is precedence in DB2 because you have recently introduced more and more alternate syntax for other SQL ... and some of these alternate syntax make life easier too. Such as
LIMIT X instead of FETCH FIRST X ROWS ONLY
LIMIT X OFFSET Y instead of OFFSET Y ROWS FETCH NEXT X ROWS ONLY
the intent of this RFE is not for IBM to spend lots of effort to add this enhancement. But it seems low effort (to me) and I think a surprising number of people would appreciate this enhancement!
|Who would benefit from this IDEA?||APPLICATION DBA AND DEVELOPERS|
How should it work?
Since we already use APPLCOMPAT in the zPARMs, why not carry that value forward and have an alias for CURRENT APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY as just APPLCOMPAT
This way, you can do your standard select and set statements as:
SELECT APPLCOMPAT FROM SYSIBM.SYSDUMMY1;
SET APPLCOMPAT = 'V12R1M504';
now in the event because you are already using APPLCOMPAT in the zPARMs and would be too much work, could even change to have an alias like: "CURRENT APPLCOMPAT" or something to that effect.
