Allow ALTER TABLE ... ROTATE for ARCHIVE TABLES (Type 'R')

We have archive tables to retain old data for up to 8 years using transparent archiving. When we try and Rotate these tables we get SQLCODE -20525:

ALTER TABLE DBO.SECURITYLOG_$ARC

ROTATE PARTITION FIRST TO LAST

ENDING AT ('2020-11-30-23.59.59.999999') INCLUSIVE RESET

SQLERROR ON ALTER COMMAND, EXECUTE FUNCTION

RESULT OF SQL STATEMENT:

DSNT408I SQLCODE = -20525, ERROR: THE REQUESTED ACTION IS NOT VALID FOR TABLE

THE WRONG TYPE OF TABLE. REASON CODE = 7

DSNT418I SQLSTATE = 428HZ SQLSTATE RETURN CODE

DSNT415I SQLERRP = DSNXIAB7 SQL PROCEDURE DETECTING ERROR

DSNT416I SQLERRD = 40 0 0 -1 0 0 SQL DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION

DSNT416I SQLERRD = X'00000028' X'00000000' X'00000000' X'FFFFFFFF' X'00

INFORMATION

To get around this we have to disable the archive then re-enable:

ALTER TABLE DBO.SECURITYLOG

DISABLE ARCHIVE

ALTER TABLE ROTATE...(as above);

ALTER TABLE DBO.SECURITYLOG

ENABLE ARCHIVE USE DBO.SECURITYLOG_$ARC;

This seems unnecessary and means we have a exposure to lost data is DELETE statements occur between DISABLE and ENABLE.

    We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
