Workspace Db2 for z/OS

Add/improve support for JSON Publishing and Parsing functions

Currently the JSON functions on DB2 z/OS are lagging behind other platforms (LUW, iSeries) by atleast 3-4 years. There is no support for building JSON document using functions like JSON_ARRAY, JSON_OBJECT, JSON_ARRAYAGG, JSON_OBJECTAGG which are available for other platforms for some time. So idea is to add support for these functions on DB2 12 and 11.

Also, the JSON_TABLE function is very limited in its current version compared to the variants available on other platforms (LUW, iSeries). So idea is also update the JSON_TABLE functionality to match with other platforms.

These feature will be very useful to leverage DB2 as Web Service Consumer capabilities. Currently, without ability to build JSON document on the fly, ability to consume/parse REST or JSON APIs from DB2 is very limited. In some cases, it leads to tones of boiler plate coding that can be easily avoided.

Db2 for z/OS development believes this is a good idea for Db2 for z/OS. It is definitely on our future list but not in priority for the upcoming 24 months. If there are requests from more clients, we will adjust its priority. Thank you.

Thanks for clearing it up and making our decision easier to move away from DB2 on z/OS. We will be recommending this to our client, given that there is no intension on IBM side to add these features.

This missing functionality is just one more argument against running work on z/OS - we don't need any more!
