Workspace Db2 for z/OS

Allow application to decide whether lock escalation should occur

Db2 for LUW has an instance-wide configuration parameter DB2_AVOID_LOCK_ESCALATION that controls whether lock escalations occur or applications receive an SQL error.

It would be good to have a similar feature in Db2 for z/OS -- of course, not subsystem-wide (nobody would dare activate it then) but controlled by a session variable.

Function Level 507 introduces the possibility to control lock escalation thresholds on a per-thread basis rather than system-wide, so yes, it does give me more fine-grained control.

However, it does not entirely meet my suggestion. Which says that if the threshold is reached (be it a global or per-thread threshold), the application will get a negative SQLCODE rather than a lock escalation if the AVOID_LOCK_ESCALATION variable is set.
