Reorg/Delete(RIMS)

On Z/os they have the capability of deleting records via a select statement at the same time as performing a reorg. This is incredibly useful as the logging is eliminated and of course all the benefits of a reorg Here are some examples. Heres an older one where we were Reorging only one partition of a range partitioned tablespace. That means that the delete statement contained in this reorg statement will only delete the rows on the table that qualify and are in that partition. So if a row qualifies but is in a different part it was not deleted: REORG TABLESPACE RE920.RE920TS PART 12 KEEPDICTIONARY YES SHRLEVEL NONE ORDER YES UNLOAD RELOAD ANALYZE MAXTAPE 30SORTNUM 32 UNLDDN SYSRC WORKDDN SYSUT UPDATEDB2STATS NO REDEFINE NO DELETEFILES YES DDTYPE WORK ACTIVE YES IFALLOC USE UNIT(SYSDA,TAPE) THRESHLD 720000DSNPAT 'CIW3.DB2UNLD.&TSIX..A&PART.&DDNAME'RETPD 2 COPY NO DELETE FROM PRVSN.EC920OLD WHERE ((ROW_END_DT < CURRENT DATE - 5 YEARS) OR (ROW_END_DT = '12/31/9999' AND ROW_STRT_DT < CURRENT DATE - 5 YEARS))Can also be done with an update statement. REORG TABLESPACE RM92510.RM925TS SHRLEVEL NONE ORDER NO UNLOAD RELOAD KEEPDICTIONARY YES ANALYZE MAXTAPE 20 SORTNUM 32 COPYDDN BMCPY ICDDN BMCICUNLDDN SYSRC WORKDDN SYSUT UPDATEDB2STATS NO REDEFINE YES DELETEFILES YES DDTYPE WORK ACTIVE YES IFALLOC USE UNIT(SYSDA,TAPE) THRESHLD 720000 DSNPAT 'CIW3.DB2UNLD.&TSIX..A&PART.&DDNAME' RETPD 2UPDATE PRVSN10.EM925 SET SEQ_NUM = SUBSTR(SRC_INDV_ID,11,1) COPY NORay Adams
