Data Request - integrate with WKC assets

Data Request is a great feature when Data Consumer (Scientists or Analytics) request access to data they had not before. The work to be done by the Data Engineer or Data Steward whould be full integrated into WKC / the asset catalog. Instead of designing a new connection (with a complete different UI, than in every other area of CP4D) or even manually enter table details for data set, the Data Engineer should create the assets in the catalog first and then respond to the request with allowing access to this new asset / allowing access to an existing asset

    Hi Susanna,

great to hear, thanks a lot.

    Actually my intention was both:

    1. What you described to be new: make existing data asset available
    2. Redesign the existing functionality: keep what is available regarding requesting, but change to process by the e.g. Data Engineer: instead of creating a connection and manually add a data asset to the request in the Data Request directly, let the Data Engineer follow the WKC process and functionality: create a connection (if not yet available), import or create a Data Asset and then use the functionality at 1) to add the Asset to the Request.

Hope this helps? I look forward to see this in a later release in CPD 😊

Hi Marc, thank you for submitting your idea. We are currently design the data access request workflow when a user encounters a data asset in the catalog to which he has no access to view the data (e.g. blocked by data protection rules). Is this the use case you are after? If so, I've associated the relevant epic.

Or are you thinking more of a data asset that is not even available in the catalog yet, and a user is requesting for (1) the asset to be added to the catalog, and (2) access to the asset so that the user can view the metadata and actual data like data preview?

    Regards,

    Susanna Tai
