Cloud Pak for Data can integrate with ISAM with virtual junction for Single-Sign-On

Some customers would like to integrate Cloud Pak for Data with ISAM which enabled virtual junction for Single-Sign-On.

These customers have the security requirement that CP4D must be deployed in App tier and can't be access directly from user workstation. Virtual junction (Reverse Proxy) in ISAM is setup to handle the tier requirement so that all traffic move from user workstation --> Reverse Proxy (Web Tier) --> (CP4D App Tier).

Because of above requirement, all the http requests/responses from client browser goes via virtual junction (reverse proxy) of ISAM. The virtual junction server authenticate all the http requests using session cookie. And it returns login page if it does not find the session cookie. As some services on Cloud Pak for Data, e.g. WKC, are taking Bearer token for the authentication rather than session cookie, this is breaking the integration.

But for customer, they are complaining that why Cloud Pak for Data can't integrate with ISAM with virtual junction even they are both from IBM. And they asked IBM for providing such kind of integration as an official solution.

For more background and information, you can refer to this git issue https://github.ibm.com/PrivateCloud-analytics/Zen/issues/20948.

It would be good to start from WKC as customer already opened tickets for such requirements.

Hi Alvin, my apologies for not responding earlier. I inquired with the CPD team and they provided the following information:

CPD (Zen/Lite) from a platform perspective already works with Virtual Junction turned on. Some requests in the "Unified governance" user experiences fail to leverage a cookie based mechanism from the browser - and that causes a problem with Virtual Junction.

Please see https://github.ibm.com/PrivateCloud-analytics/Zen/issues/20948#issuecomment-26008176 on some pointers on how to resolve this

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Susanna
