IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

CP4D Cartridge for ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise

Allow CP4D bi-directional access and connectivity to a full-fledged geographic information system (GIS) embedded as part of our data fabric and AI offerings.  ESRI, who is the predominate GIS  vendor, introduced a containerized flavor of their ArcGIS Enterprise service, containerized, and on OpenShift a few years ago…. ArcGIS Kubernetes for Enterprise.  That version can already run on-prem or cloud, and since it’s on OpenShift and containerized… in theory, architecturally, they can be co-deployed.  Additionally, as about 80% of all data has some kind of a spatial component to it, having the capability to go beyond a simple 'map it' to true spatial analytics within a data fabric would be a differentiator.  If ArcGIS Enterprise could be deployed as a cartridge within CP4D – you could use Watson Studio to do data science far more interactively with spatial data (note:  there is already a hook at the API level between ESRI and Watson Studio); users could connect Watson Query or CP4D platform connections to extend tabular data in ESRI; users could extend their data catalog by adding spatial data catalog using WKC (and with DQ/governance against the tabular chunk of spatial data), it could be part of a lakehouse (watsonx.data); services DataStage could help with ETL/ELT of spatial data (but you’d need to get to some of the specialized projectional ‘math’ that’s involved with map projections) similar to what SAFE software does… probably help sell more Netezza to speed up heavy-duty GIS processing… bi-directionally, any data with a spatial dimension.

This is a great idea. Just abot all data has a geospatial component to it. Our DoD, Intel and Federal Systems Integrators could definately use a geospatial capability. We use to have a partnerhsip with ESRI within out tools, like COGNOS, not sure what has happened to that partnership.

The Intelligence division within the US Coast Guard absolutely needs this! They own CP4D, use ESRI significantly and would greatly benefit from this idea. As it stands, we will have to do manual integration to connect ESRI with CP4D. Two ISC opportunities that would benefit from this - 0063h00000KzvWQAAZ and 0063h00000KzUaIAAV
