Support for Oracle Data Guard ASM

Currently IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR)’s Change Data Capture does not support replication with Oracle Data Guard with ASM.

As many Oracle ASM customers are using Informatica for replication, and Informatica is changing the architecture for replication – forcing current customers to migrate their replication processing to the cloud – customers in secure environments are interested in moving to IIDR/CDC.

My request is to have ASM support added to IIDR/CDC to enable these customers to consider it as a replacement for Informatica replication.

About Oracle Data Guard and ASM:

Oracle Active Data Guard enables read-only access to a physical standby database for queries, sorting, reporting, web-based access, etc., while continuously applying changes received from the production/primary database.

Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is an integrated, high-performance database file system and disk manager originally released by Oracle for Oracle 10g and supported in all subsequent releases. ASM is based on the principle that the database should manage storage instead of requiring an administrator to do it and aims to simplify the management of database datafiles, control files and log files.

Oracle ASM overview: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmcon.htm#OSTMG036

The Fillmore Group is currently working with IBM Channels team supporting resellers of Unified Governance and Integration (UG&I) customers.   We are in the process of determining who the customers are that may be impacted by the Informatica change and will promote IIDR/CDC as an alternative if this can be enabled.

I believe that DG+ASM combination is supported by CDC.

However, reading from DG standby currently means to work in archivelog only mode.

If that is the mentioned problem, then proper description of an idea is provided here: https://hybridcloudunit-internal.ideas.aha.io/ideas/CDC-I-146 (Support reading standby redo logs (SLRs) on Oracle Standby)
