Replicate Timezone portion for timestamp with time zone data type

IIDRCDC for PostgreSQL Source is relatively new IBM product that replicates data from PostgreSQL database. In this particular scenario, source is PostgreSQL and target is flat file using IIDRCDC Datastage product.

Per IIDRCDC datatype support document, "Timestamp with time zone" data type is supported by IIDRCDC PostgreSQL Source and IIDRCDC Datastage flatfile target.

By default, IIDRCDC flatfile target can only produce output up to second precision ( 2 digit seconds). Microseconds portion of timestamp can be produce using IBM's sample userexit program as describe below.

Examples:

PostgreSQL DB "timestamp with time zone" value => 2021-06-14 12:45:02.936025-04

Default IIDRCDC Datastage flatfile value => "2021-06-14 12:45:02"

IIDRCDC Datastage flatfile using IBM's sample userexit => "2021-06-14 12:45:02.936025"

At this time, there is no method or sample userexit that can produce "time zone" (-04) information in the flatfile output.

As more applications and databases using "timestamp with time zone" data type, this should be part of default IIDRCDC Datastage flatfile output. "Timestamp with time zone" is critical datatype to identify records order and handles applications or databases in different time zones. At least, IBM should provide some kind of sample program that customer can use to have this functionality in the target flatfile.

This is very crucial functionality for IIDRCDC if target data is used for frauds, audits, analytics or warehouse applications. This request is to provide some kind of solution for this problem

Thank you for raising this IDEA. We have reviewed this and while we think it is valid given other priority items we will not consider this IDEA for implementation at this point.

A current workaround is available i.e the IIDRCDC flatfile target may be modified to include TimeZone informaton using a userexit program . Furthermore if we change the base flatfile to include additional fields this has the potential to negatively impact existing customers.
