When Oracle Database redo and archived log files are stored in ASM under Linux, and ASMFD is used as part of the ASM setup, IBM CDC agent is not able to read these logs remotely.
Oracle seems to recommend the use of ASMFD under Linux, as it "simplifies the configuration and management of disk devices" and "ejects any I/O requests that are invalid" (https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/OSTMG/GUID-E1E9DA6F-6E4B-427A-83AE-7F9DFCE068D9.htm).
Remote log reading decreases the load over the source database server by the replication, and supports the separation of duties between the database and replication administrators.
Please support the remote log reading from ASMFD devices in IBM CDC agent for Oracle Database.
Implementing such support should not be too difficult, as IBM CDC already supports remote log reading from ASM devices in other configurations.
How should it work?
There are workarounds in this situation, such as either local log reading or archivelog copying to the filesystem. However:
Obtaining permission to install CDC software to the primary host can be difficult.
In some cases, additional data storage costs may not be acceptable.
|Priority Justification||There are many tasks for the CDC deployment, starting at July. Many systems using ASMFD and their administrators won't accept to stop using ASMFD, thus it will be difficult to deploy CDC on these systems.|
