Need a way to activate TCP KeepAlive on management console

On an enterprise environment is highly probable that between the Management Console and the Access Server there are firewalls.
Many times we get socket errors on the console because presumably the firewall closed the connections due to inactivity. This is annoying and causes a feeling of bad quality / instability (as incorrect as it may be) on the customers.

I agree that this is an urgent fix. I have faced this on several customers specially in the current environment of remote work. Firewalls and VPNs are now a constant presence in customer environments. And apparently they're becomming more "agressive" in the inactivity settings, breaking connections much quicker. Note that to implement this feature (on either side - AS/MC - ) we would only need the possibility of configure a parameter (true/false) in a configuration file and use that to define if we use the SO_KEEPALIVE flag in the socket() (or Java equivalent) call. The configuration of the keepalive interval and other settings would have to be done in the OS side. So it sounds pretty simple to implement and would provide a mechanism to avoid several situations, but mostly:
1- Stalled connections already killed by the firewall which AS/MC try to use and get errors (eventually after the user has gone through several configuration pannels making this a huge annoyance

2- Killed connections which may leave user connections behind that will prevent new connections and require the connection to be cleared (using the GUI or CHCCLP and a different user with administrative privileges

We already have KEEPALIVE settings for other connections (AS to Agents and between Agents I think) which makes it less understandable why we don't provide this also for MC -> AS.

I will not mention customer names in this public comment, but I can say I faced issues with these in 3 of the bigger banks in Portugal and on a Spanish government agency (big CDC user). We also faced this on one of the biggest retail chains in Portugal.

    Regards

This is becoming an increasing issue as most new CDC implementations now involve replication from on-premise to cloud and this inevitably involves firewalls which cause the Management Console/Access Server connections to the datatores to timeout where the connection is between cloud and on-premise.

    [IBM Update]

    Hi,

Thank you for filing this requirement and for your interest in keeping CDC a vital and successful technology. We depend on your continued interest and ideas to help ensure our products keep pace with market needs and industry standards.

Although we do agree that your request is valid, after monitoring your request for more customer demand over the last few years and applying other relevant evaluation criteria, unfortunately we won't be able to accept your request at this time. However, if there is still an important business need, we encourage you to file a new idea accompanied with any additional information that could help us prioritize the requirement in the future.
