Query optimization by not creating an extra query for summaries

In reports running with full interactivity having a dimensional source (DMR or Cube) you need to use the built in summary function in order to have a summary. This since any drill-downs will create a new data item and you can't reference a specific data item in the summary since it can change
aggregate(currentMeasure within set [Row Data Item]) will not work because if you drill down on [Row Data Item] a new one is automatically created.
However the default summary creates a separate query to the source to fetch the value. Cognos should be able to aggregate the data in the report to a summary without querying the source separately.
This applies to relational sources as well even that no drill-downs are happening. The important thing is that no extra queries to the source should be needed to aggregate the measure into a summary.
