Alert users when an updated module or data set is available

Scenario: A user is building a dashboard using the Dashboard tool. At the same time, an updated data module is saved, making the users current data module obsolete. The user doesn't know this, however, and continues building their dashboard. The next time the log in, there are errors in their dashboard caused by discrepancies between the original data module and the new one that was created during their session.

Solution: Alert end users who have active sessions in any of the Cognos authoring tools when the following events occur:

  • A new version of their source data module is available
  • A new version of their source package has been published
  • A new version of their source data set is available
  • A new load of their source data set is complete
  • A new load of their source data set, which is contained within a data module, is complete

Following the alert, give users the option to easily refresh the authoring tool to incorporate the updated data source while retaining their progress.
