Prompt/parameter defauts - Set by Query (Use Query as source instead of hardcoded text)

Instead of hardcoded text, have the option to use a query as the source for prompt/parameter defaults. This will make the default selection of a prompt dynamic (user can access each report with own preferences).

In our company we need to be able to set global preferences for users without blocking the option to broaden the parameter selection later on.

Not having a good way to implement user preferences will play a major fact in future tool selections in our company. In Cognos 10 we used java-select-all-prompts on hidden prompt pages but we do not whish to take this road again (not to mention that dynamic reports will remove all the javascript used in a report).

    While I'm aware of the aversion to JavaScript, Custom Controls in interactive mode are fully supported.


    In the free version of CogBox there is a custom control called "Set Prompt Values". You can attach a query with Use and Display data items, and it will use those values to set the target prompt. In your filter you can use macro functions in the filter to set the dynamic defaults you need.
