REST API: Provide more detail about the usage/links to File-Based and External data sources.

Here are the API calls I make:

  • To find out about external data sources (Postgres etc.) I use the url: <url>/api/v1/datasources and <url>/api/v1/datasources/<id>/connections
  • To find out which files are imported into the platform I use the url: <url>/api/v1/files
  • To find out about the platform's data modules I use the url: <url>/api/v1/modules
  • To retrieve all the reports (more complex because there is no specific endpoint), I retrieve the content of the platform with a recursive loop that calls the url: <url>/api/v1/content and <url>/api/v1/content/<id>/items, and I look at the items that have a type 'report', 'exploration' or 'interactiveReport'

Today I can make the link with a module, because in the module feedback I have the ancestor information. But for a file, for example, I don't have any information about where they are used. Same applies for external data sources.

It would be easier to have an endpoint with all the reports, and the sources attached as on the interface, even if it means getting the details by calling the other endpoints.
