Full Report List in Audit Database

There should be a section added to the audit database that holds information on all reports that reside in the Cognos Analytics instance. This information is already present when looking at the permissions of a report, but there is not a complete list for all reports. In our situation alone, there are two scenarios where this information would be helpful.

The first scenario is where a company is upgrading their entire legacy Cognos system to Cognos 11 where there is no migration path. All reporting and modeling are being done manually. Near the end of the migration of all reports, the senior management team of the company asks for validation that all reports were converted over from the legacy system over to the new system. Not all the reports were executed by someone in the Production system after they were ported over. Therefore, the audit database does not have a full list of all reports that reside in the system and there is no way to prove that all the reports have been migrated to present to the senior management team. The only way would be to manually go through all the folders and make a list of all reports that are in the system, which is very time consuming.

The second scenario is that a company has migrated a few hundred reports over from a legacy Cognos system with no migration path and the company realizes that they were not following best practices for modeling. Once this is realized, a v2.0 model is created to create v2.0 packages for every package. Once the v2.0 packages are completed, there is no way to get a full list of all reports that use the original package to switch them over to the new v2.0 package. The only way would be to manually go through all the folders looking at the permissions of all reports and making a list of all reports that are using the original package that was created, which is very time consuming.

Adding this information to the Audit Database would save time and money for any company that needs to confirm what reports exist in their system, even if they have not been executed, and all the information associated to those reports.
