Cognos Analytics Archive Location automatic reconnect after network disconnection

Jobs scheduled in Cognos Analytics began failing when using an Archive Location. An error indicating that the archive location file system root could not be found. The root cause was due to a network connection issue and as a result Cognos Analytics lost access to the archive location. To resolve this services are required to be restarted to restore the connection to the Archive Location. This is problematic as it interrupts the Cognos services in two main ways. Firstly reports fail due to being unable to access the Archive Location and secondly there is further disruption whilst the Cognos services are restarted to restore the connection to the Archive Location. The proposed solution would be that the connection to the Archive location is restored automatically without a service restart.

Who would benefit from this IDEA? Every user would benefit from it, it ensures a more stable system, fewer errors and less support effort. In the end, software should always do what is configured and not just stop doing it silently.
How should it work?

When there is a network connection issue causing the Archive location to become inaccessible, the reports utilising the location should fail. Once the network connection issue is overcome, the Cognos connection to the Archive location should automatically be restored allowing reports utilising the location to function once again. A service restart should not be required.
