Planning Analytics:-Cognos Analytics as a Data Source

We have highlighted that In Previous version of PA and PAW we had option  to select Cognos Analytics as data source which gives us option to  integrate with SAP and cloud databases such as Snowflake.

Currently this feature is only enabled in Performance Modular but not in Architect and PAW.

We want to highlight this point here because we have multiple tasks where we have to integrate PA with SAP or Snowflake and by using Cognos analytics as a source can solve this issue.

So this will be good idea to leverage inhouse product rather than using external products to complete these tasks.

This is not specific for any Organization tasks, in current scenario there are lot of customers who is moving on cloud environments such as they are pushing there data on cloud databases such as snowflake and then they want to integrate that with PA.

Recently we came across with this requirement for one of our new customer who wants to integrate SAP with PA, for this if we will have option to select Cognos analytics as s source can give us solution to solve customer concern.

There is one more customer who wants snowflake as a data source in PA, as they have their own ODBC connector which is a licensed product.

so  to deal with these scenarios if we can enable same feature in recent PA and PAW to select Cognos Analytics as a data source can help us to resolve these concerns without using any third party products ,it also makes our product more flexible and reliable when we have to integrate PA with any type of data sources such as SAP or Cloud databases.

This specific idea is not under consideration. The IBM Planning Analytics team has not plan to build a connector specific to Cognos Analytics data sources or reports.

However, TM1 v12 (the version of TM1 included with Planning Analytics SaaS) does support REST API based data sources within Turbo Integrator. It appears that data sources in Cognos Analytics can be manipulated with the Cognos Analytics REST API (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/12.0.0?topic=api-rest-reference), but does not appear that queries are supported. Consider an enhancement request to the Cognos Analytics REST API to allow for SQL queries using the Cognos Analytics data source.

For SAP, consider the use of the ODATA gateway with the optional SAP connector.
